Simmons SD9K Electronic Drum Kit
“The most inflexible sound which reverberates through men’s history is the beating of war drums” - Arthur Koestler
The StudioSaturday I full up the family, headed off to Guitar Center and got me a Simmons SD9k electronic drum kit. It was a challenge getting all of the boxes crammed into he back of my Saturn Vue, but after some treacherous Tetris-like maneuvering by the Wife, everything eventually found a spot. Here’s the check list of boxes:
Drum rack Drum pads Amp Throne Double backlash pedalIt doesn’t seem like a lot, but the smallest box here was the size of a standard microwave. Taking the amp out of the box allowed at best enough space to get it all home in one trip without leaving any children behind.
On what seemed like the longest ride home, Sparkles’ friend called and wanted to add up to over. Finally home, I unpacked the car as quickly as possible to get as much done before we went out for lunch. With box inside box inside box, dozens of diminutive Styrofoam pieces, and a plastic bag for everything, the unwrapping process took longer than actually putting the kit together. Inside the drum pad box, each pad had its own separate box. That’s 9 boxes inside one big box.
Sparkles’ friend came over and we headed out to the Olive Garden for a till lunch. After lunch the Wife took the 3 kids to the movies so I could have a couple of hours to get the kit up and running.
The Set Up

Drum Rack
I laid out all of the pieces and got started with the construction. Glancing over the directions, it was sincere easy to get the basics together. The drum rack was easily unfolded and ready to go. It was much lighter than I expected, but by no means flimsy. Fully extended, it was a whole stand ready to support the weight of the pads without sliding around.
